The White Flame is created by Space10 team at the invitation of JV Studio for Karen Lake Art Festival. It grows deeply in the exploitation of local culture and nature.

湖与冰
Lake and Ice 

东北地区有着得天独厚的自然环境，四季分明，山湖相依，夏木冬雪。孕育于此的东北文化基因中，自古以来就铭刻着对自然的敬爱。特殊地理条件带给当地人生存挑战的同时，也赋予他们许多独属于北地冬季的绝版美景与强大的聚落凝聚力。

The Northeast region has a unique natural environment with distinct four seasons, mountains and lakes, trees in summer and snow in winter. The Northeast cultural genes nurtured here have been engraved with respect for nature since ancient times. While the special geography brings survival challenges to the locals, it also gives them many unique treasure and strong community cohesion.

“卡伦湖的冬天大都是白色的，原本青绿色的水面，也凝结成一种如冷白色玉石般质感坚硬的冰层，而这片冬日限定的白雪与冰玉交融的表面，是每个跨年节日中附近居民相聚庆祝的好地方。”

“The Karen Lake is mostly white in winter. It’s turquoise water surface also condenses into a cool white jade-like ice layer, This winter-only interlacing with snow and ice is a good place for nearby residents to gather and celebrate local festival.”

卡伦湖位于长春市东郊，每当冬季，湖面会冻结成美丽纯净的冰原，变成了一片人们可以走入其中，游玩欢庆的“季节限定冰雪乐园”。这或许也是四季轮转中，自然山河为“靠辛劳与智慧让这片土地变得丰饶的人们”准备的谢礼。

Karen Lake is located in the eastern suburbs of Changchun City. Every winter, the lake surface will be frozen into a pure ice field, becoming a “season limited wonderland” where people can walk in and enjoy the celebration with astonishing landscape.
This may also be a thank you gift prepared by the mother nature for people who make this land fertile with hard work and wisdom, in the samsara of seasons.

为了创作出真正生长于“此时此地”的艺术装置，我们的团队亲自踏入零下20度的冰湖，体验在地生活，与自然对话。“我们希望这个装置在日间，有一种清新而凌冽的气质来回应这片湖面与蓝天。”

In order to create an art installation that truly grows “here and now”, our team personally stepped into the icy lake at minus 20 degrees Celsius to experience local life and communicate with nature. “We hope that this installation will have a fresh and sharp temperament during the day to respond to the lake and the blue sky.”

冰湖，霜雪，都是水的物态变化——这看起来是一个触及自然造化魔力的有趣主题。因此我们希望用当代艺术的方式来探索这个主题，向北地的冬季致敬。在形态上，我们试图用陡峭转折来捕捉冰晶与雪山的轮廓；在质感上，我们用绳编工艺产生的半透明肌理呈现雪与雾的氤氲。

Lake, Ice, frost and snow are all physical changes of water – this seems to be an interesting theme that touches on the magic of nature. Therefore, we hope to explore this theme in the form of contemporary art and pay tribute to the north winter.
In form, we try to capture the outline of ice crystals and snow mountain with steep turns; in texture, we use the translucent texture produced by rope weaving to present the mist of snow and fog.

光与焰
Light and Flame

“日归向晚时，白焰好像星尘点燃的光焰，散发出柔和清辉，照亮冰原长夜。”如同宝石迷人的辉蕴，光与物质肌理总是能发生美妙的化学反应：装置白焰以金属框架的锐利质感与绳艺的散射导光，打造出介于冰与雪之间的光学表达。“将在太阳升起时消失的光影与将在春天到来时消融的冰湖，为人们献上一期一会的梦境。”

“As the sun sets, the white flames are like ignited by stardust, emitting a soft and clear glow, illuminating the long night of the ice lake.” Just like the fascinating brilliance of gemstone, light and material always produce wonderful chemical reactions:
The installation uses the sharp texture of the metal frame and the scattered light of the rope to create an optical expression between ice and snow. “The light and shade that will disappear when the sun rises and the ice and snow that will melt when spring arrives will present a once-in-a-lifetime dream.”

冰雪之外，我们希望用数字媒体艺术进一步探索物态变化的主题。如同阳光通过棱镜色散成彩虹，白焰也可以幻化成七彩的艺术狂想：缥缈极光与剔透晶体、熊熊篝火与纷纷瑞雪……

In addition to ice and snow, we hope to use digital media art to further explore the theme of physical changes. Just as sunlight is dispersed into a rainbow through a prism, white flames can also be transformed into chromatic art fantasies: Aurora or Crystals, blazing bonfires and falling snow…

“当你站在零下20度的冰面，没有其他感官比得上带来针刺感的温度更鲜明。所以我们希望在太阳落山，寒夜笼罩大地之后，以媒体艺术，为卡伦湖点燃一团温暖，热烈的火，成为号召人们聚集的中心。”

“When you stand on the field at minus 20 degrees, no other sense can compare to the tingling temperature. So we hope to raise a warm and passionate flame for Lake Karen with media art after the sun sets and the cold night covers the earth, and become the core for people to gather.”

如同篝火在冬夜里让人们聚集，对我们来说，与致敬自然同等重要的，是与人产生连接。所以我们在创作的一开始就设想，这不能仅仅是供人观看的物品，更需要是一个让人们可以走入其中、主动参与的体验。我们希望，这是一团点燃冰湖，鼓励人们走向彼此，温暖相遇的魔法之焰。

Just as bonfires bring people together on winter night, for us, it is equally important to connect with people as to pay tribute to nature. So from the beginning of the creation, we imagined that this work should not only be an object for people to watch, but also an experience that people can walk into and actively participate in. We hope that this is a magical flame that illuminate the ice lake, encourages people to approach each other, and warms up the encounter.

“美轮美奂的光影吸引着人们从四面八方而来，经过梦幻欢乐的路途，一起仰望节日的星空，共同收获来自卡伦湖的感动与共鸣。”

“The magnificent lights attract people from all directions. After a dreamy and joyful journey, they look up at the starry sky together and harvest the touching and resonance from Lake Karen together.”

Let art grow in the mountains and lakes, and use technology to add flavor to life. In the most amazing season in Changchun, people meet on Karen Lake, sing and dance in the embrace of nature, and make new translations for local cultural genes.
